Re-new, Refresh, Reveal

With summer on the way, 40% of the population – with teenage girls and brides-to-be at the top of the list – will be sighing with frustration at the rough, dry bumpy skin on their arms.

Officially known as Keratosis Pilaris, commonly called ‘chicken skin’, and hated by the masses of people who have this largely genetic condition.

In our image obsessed world, having to make the choice between the latest fashion and feeling comfortable in your own skin is an ongoing dilemma. Add to that being uncomfortable about your own body, your arms and legs, amidst a world of cami tops, vests, strapless dresses, bandeau tops, mini skirts, shorts, prom dresses and even, for some, wedding gowns…. the list is endless, but the choices for those with KP less so.

Annette, our founder, is an expert on Keratosis Pilaris. Through years of personal experience and research she knows that there are some things you can do to help yourself: Keep your skin well moisturised, avoid extreme bathing temperatures and use the mildest soap free cleansers, do not pick at the bumps as inflammation and scarring may result, be gentle when you exfoliate and moisturise with an Alpha Hydroxy Body Lotion. You can never ‘cure’ KP only manage it; once you stop your routine, the keratin and dead skin cells will build up again in the hair follicle, and the bumps will return, so regular skin ‘maintenance’ is essential.

For anyone who has come across AMELIORATE before, you will know that it is specifically designed for those with Keratosis Pilaris. The joy of the range is that Annette has used all her knowledge and experience and worked with skincare scientists to create a range of products that will allow teenage girls, brides-to- be and everyone else to bare their arms and legs with confidence this summer.

There are two physical exfoliators – a mitt that is gentler than a loofah and an exfoliant that contains bio-degradable micro granules made from bamboo, in addition to Alpha Hydroxy Therapy. Both the exfoliators are designed to be used on dry skin, prior to a bath or shower.

AMELIORATE has two mild, soap-free cleansers, one for the shower and one for the bath. Both clinically proven to moisturise for up to 8 hours and both designed to attract moisture to the skin, not strip it during washing.

Finally, our hero product, the apple of many beauty journalists’ and customers’ eye, is the Transforming Body Lotion. It is a miracle product for those with KP. Clinically proven, with people seeing results in the first week of use, but those results increasing with continued use. After 4 weeks over 80% of KP users claimed it made their skin softer, smoother, moisturised, in better condition, looking healthier, working better than their normal product and finally, willing to recommend it to their friends and family.

Lactic Acid is the Alpha Hydroxy Acid of choice used at levels that really work. The body lotion both exfoliates and moisturises. The lactic acid helps to exfoliate and remove the dead skin, blocking the hair follicles and then a unique moisturising complex, proven to moisturise for up to 12 hours, leaves skin soft, smooth and healthy-looking.

For those of you with Keratosis Pilaris, take Annette’s advice, you can’t cure KP but with regular skin maintenance, you won’t know you have it. 3 steps are the answer: exfoliate, cleanse and moisturise with the right products – use AMELIORATE and you can re-new, refresh and reveal beautiful skin and choose the bandeau top of your dreams!
